Role
Fold Unfold is a design-driven startup creating homemade festive décor by blending traditional Indian celebrations with modern, eco-conscious aesthetics.
Founder | Design Lead
Goal
To build a scalable, design-led business system that modernizes traditional Indian festive decor through environmental friendly materials, modular product system, and data-driven market positioning.

Do we Consciously Celebrate??
Is it Cost Efficienct??
Is that Modern enough?
How might we
design a festive and home decor system that is sustainable, affordable, and logistically efficient for nationwide scaling?
The Core Disconnects
Environmental Aspect
Growing awareness led consumers to look for affordable, environmentally friendly décor options.

Logistical Friction
Traditional decor is often bulky, fragile, and difficult to store in urban apartments.

Market Stagnation
A lack of "3D" and "reusable" options that justify a higher price point through better functionality.

Strategic Objectives
Designing with Real Insights
Objective: Move beyond assumptions by conducting comprehensive primary market research.
Execution: Analyzed 100+ survey responses to synthesize insights on age demographics, income-based spending habits, drive final product decisions.
Designed as a System
Objective: Re-engineer traditional forms (Lamps, Chakras, Rakhis) into modular, flat-pack systems.
Execution: Integrated innovation features such as magnetic bases for metallic surface attachment and interlocking bamboo straw mechanisms to optimize for both user versatility and shipping efficiency.
Making It Work at Scale
Objective: Optimize unit economics to ensure "design-led" does not mean "unaffordable".
Execution: Standardized a financial model (40% materials, 20% labor, 20% packaging, 20% margin) and established a scalable supply chain by empowering a local workforce of students and homemakers through targeted skill development.
Building a Brand Across Channels
Objective: Build a cohesive brand narrative that bridges the gap between traditional heritage and modern "upcycling".
Execution: Secured market presence through a strategic mix of retail partnerships, participating exhibitions, local pop-up marketplaces, and "hamper" offerings to maximize brand visibility and synergy.
Management & Systems Thinking
Modular Logic:
Developed a design language where components were interchangeable, reducing material waste and streamlining production.
Process Ownership:
Managed the entire lifecycle: Ideation Prototyping Iteration Production Planning Quality Control.
Brand Cohesion:
Ensured the narrative of "Light & Positivity" remained consistent across physical pop-ups, online marketplaces, and retail collaborations.
"Fold Unfold required rigorous operational strategy to survive as a business."
Operations & Scalability

Supply Chain & Sourcing:
Benchmarked and sourced sustainable materials while coordinating with local workforces to enable community-based production.

Logistics Optimization:
By designing for "detachability," Significantly reduced packaging volume, lowering shipping costs and carbon footprint.

Market Expansion:
Navigated a multi-channel GTM (Go-to-Market) strategy, balancing high-touch physical pop-ups with the high-reach efficiency of digital marketplaces.
